ENVIRONMENTAL WEBQUEST: HONEYBEES

Welcome 5th Graders!

Introduction: Service

INTRODUCTION

You may initially be excited that Honeybees are dying off at an increasing rate but, do no bees mean no food? Many Honeybees are dying and scientists do not know why. They are worried because we rely on bees to pollinate 71 of the 100 crops that provide 90 percent of most of the world’s food.

This week we will BEE exploring the vital effects that HoneyBees serve our environment and the causes of the decline in HoneyBees.

In this web quest, you will split up into groups of four. Two members of your group will take on the role as a Beekeeper and two members will take on the role as an investigator into the reasoning behind the decrease in HoneyBees.

The Beekeepers will be researching the many impacts bees have on the environment and what would happen if they went completely extinct. The investigators are going to research the causes for the death of bees. In the end, group members will create a powerpoint of their findings from both the perspective of a beekeeper and an investigator. Also, groups will need to create a poster to warn the public about this growing issue featuring ways they could help to prevent further harm to the HoneyBees.

Once you have your groups and have assigned roles, go to the task section to begin!

Good Luck
